Vintage Tuskegee Airman ‘Who Says Black Men Can’t Fly?’ T Shirt. The Tuskegee Airmen were the first African American soldiers to successfully complete their training and enter the Army air corps during World War II. The Tuskegee Airmen destroyed 251 enemy airplanes and were awarded a total of 150 Distinguished Flying Crosses for their service. Some of those awards were 8 Purple Hearts, 14 Bronze Stars, 3 Distinguished Unit Citations, and 744 Air Medals and Clusters for their service in the U.S. military.
